We fitted a cavity drain membrane – the back of the membrane looks like an egg-box. This method doesn’t try to stop water coming through from the ground, but any that does penetrate trickles down between the egg-box studs at the back of the membrane to a plastic channel, so protecting the inner face. The gradient in the channel carries the water around the perimeter of the basement to a sump. We dug out all the channels and fitted a pump in the sump to expel accumulated water to a drain.
Munster Groundworks & Basementsmare able to offer a fully project managed waterproofing service. Our team of CSSW qualified surveyors can design the waterproofing system for a new build waterproofing project or inspect and survey an existing basement structure for the retrofit or repair of the waterproofing systems.
Cavity drainage membranes are studded sheets of HDPE membrane which are used to internally line the basement walls and floor. Any water that enters the structure is harmlessly diverted into a suitable drainage system whilst the internal space remains dry. Walls are then finished using a plasterboard dry lining system and often a screed finish to the floor.
External waterproofing systems work by protecting the outside of a structure against water ingress. External barriers can be pre-applied to new concrete structures or post- applied to masonry or block-work structures. External waterproofing is typically used as part of a combined waterproofing system for new build projects but can be used in isolation for areas such as car parks where an exposed concrete finish is required.
These systems involve using an impervious barrier to the inside face of the structure to physically hold water back. Our technical team can advise on the careful substrate preparation required as well as detailing for fixing points and services. For larger projects we have a specially trained spray applied waterproofing team, this means we are able to apply waterproof tanking systems quickly and accurately.
Unfortunately, errors do occur in the formation of concrete structures. Failures in basement concrete structures are often from poor concrete compaction and incorrect concrete hydration. Munster Construction are able to inspect, specify and repair defective concrete construction joints, areas of honeycombed concrete or structural cracks.
Lift pits are usually the lowest part of the basement floor slab but receive the least attention when it comes to waterproofing design. Munster can effectively seal leaking lift pits against water ingress on existing flooded lifts as well as design lift pit waterproofing systems for new build projects.
We repair flood and water damage to any property and structure and advise on how to implement flood prevention.
We are a leading trace and access company. Trace and access is the industry term for tracing a leak and making a repair causing no damage or minimum of damage possible to your property.
When instructed to carry out a trace and access report we use the most sophisticated technology using pinhole cameras and thermal imaging to look for leaks and water ingress without causing damage.
The findings are compiled into a report along with a quotation to rectify any flood and water damage to be approved by the client or insurance company before any attempt is made to carry out remedial works.
