We reduced the ground 9.5 meters by 5.5 meters down to the depth of 3 meters Removal of main muck to be down no lower than the existing footings, until underpinning was completed. Underpinning was dug out in sequence, once dug out to the depth of 3 meters reinforcement bars where put in as shown on drawings. Thickness of retaining wall 300mm. The main vertical bars where H10 at 125 centers, giving a 50mm covering, H10 bars at 200 centers coming into the toe. The toe was dug out at 300 thickness and 1.9 meters in length. A 300 thick heel was put into the depth of 325, main bars to the heel to where H8 bars at 126 centers. Once reinforcement was in the holes, they where inspected by building control then shuttered up and strut to the bank. Concrete was poured and vibrated down. A 75mm gap was left for dry packing. 13 pins all told where underpinned in sequence as shown in the drawing.
We completed a new basement shell, under existing house, extending out under my garden. 2,200 sq foot in total. the job consisted of underpinning and forming the retaining walls. Putting in a new concrete slab, and digging out under neath my garden. The dig out under the garden was 6 meters by 10 meters. The complete basement shell was completed and block and beam was done. All concrete was poured in using C40 concrete and a concrete pump. All channels where dug out for waterproofing at a later stage and a pit was dug out ready for the pumps.
Trial pits dug out at our Sikh center in West Ealing. Soil samples where taken by Making Space and sent away for testing.
We excavated under the house and built a new basement. All underpinning was completed and new slabs completed, this was carried out following the structural engineers drawings.
We completed the excavation for a new basement for a two story extension to be built on top. We faced many issues with this project, and the structural drawings kept changing. We took 5 months to complete this in the end to the engineers satisfaction.
